Gu Tao, born in 1978 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, is a Professor in the Department of History at the School of Humanities, Tsinghua University, and a doctoral supervisor. He received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in literature from Nanjing University.

He has been awarded the Beijing Young Distinguished Teaching Award and the Beijing Distinguished Teaching Award for Curriculum-based Ideological and Political Education. His research focuses on the history of Chinese institutions, the history of ritual studies, and frontier history.

Courses he teaches include Readings in the Shiji, Confucius and Lu Xun, State Governance in Ancient China, Inner Asian Frontiers in Antiquity, and Studies on the Tongdian.
