Area Studies is a comprehensive academic research journal hosted by the Institute of International and Area Studies at Tsinghua University, published by The Commercial Press, and edited by Professor Jiang Jingkui. It is published twice a year and is fully indexed by China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The journal aims to serve the development of the first-level discipline of area studies and is dedicated to providing a high-level academic exchange platform for scholars engaged in regional and country-specific research. The publication focuses on the research objects, themes, theories, and methods of area studies, promoting the production of disciplinary knowledge and the innovative exploration of related research methodology paths.
Since the release of its inaugural issue, Area Studies has centered on research topics while also addressing regions outside the focal areas and key countries in area studies, organizing and publishing a series of research results with localized characteristics. To further explore different objects and common issues in area studies, a “Special Topic” section has been established, in which in-depth discussions on specific topics are conducted. This section brings together research outcomes from scholars with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, focusing on various global regions, providing multi-dimensional and insightful perspectives on important topics in area studies. The journal also emphasizes the exploration and reflection on epistemology and methodology in area studies, paying attention to and examining fieldwork and multidisciplinary development, theories and methods of fieldwork, ethics of fieldwork, and case studies of fieldwork.
