On the afternoon of January 9, 2019, the second Council Meeting of the Institute for International and Area Studies (IIAS) was successfully held at Office 205 of the Main Building. Chairman Gu Binglin presided over the event. Wang Xiqin, Executive Vice President, Prof. Bai Chongen, Prof. Xue Lan and Prof. Liu Dong Participate as Council members. Two deputy deans, Zhang Jing and Zhang Chuanjie, made debriefing reports. The meeting also discussed and passed the final accounts in 2018 as well as the budgets and work plan in 2019.
Deputy Dean Zhang Jing summarized the relevant progress of the Institute’s personnel and scientific research in 2018 in the report. In 2018, IIAS’ personnel system was implemented. The recruitment of researchers and administrative teams was also steadily advanced. A variety of academic exchange activities were carried out smoothly, and the new office was renovated and put into use. Deputy Dean Zhang Chuanjie reported to the directors on teaching and financial work. In 2018, the Doctoral Program in Developing Country Studies (DCS) successfully completed the enrollment of 2018 Intake and the recruitment of 2019 Intake. The Teaching Committee also completed the renewal work.
The directors agreed that 2019 is a key transition year for the Institute to move from startup to steady development. In this year, the Institute must continue to improve the construction of various rules and regulations, improve the leadership mechanism, build on student training and academic research, strengthen cooperation with research academic institutions at home and abroad, and make breakthroughs in courses and academic activities. It is also important to realize the normal and stable development of the Institute.
