The 2024 Regional and Country Studies Youth Summer Camp of IIAS Tsinghua University Was Successfully Held
    • From June 28 to June 30, 2024, the “2024 Regional and Country Studies Youth Summer Camp of IIAS, Tsinghua University” (hereinafter referred to as the summer camp) was successfully held. The summer camp received more than 200 applications, and 48 students from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, New York University and other prestigious universities at home and abroad successfully entered the camp.

      On June 28, the opening ceremony of the summer camp was held at IIAS, Tsinghua University. Assistant Professor Zhou Yan presided over the opening ceremony, and Assistant Professor Yang Chongsheng gave a comprehensive introduction to the development history of the Institute, teacher strength, talent training and other aspects, and shared with the students the topics of common concern.

      Over the next two days, the summer camp has arranged high-level academic lectures and academic salons. Professor Tim Niblock, titled “Area Studies: its Nature, Value and Significance in the Contemporary World”, delves into the nature, value and significance of area studies. Professor Su Yu-Sung led the exploration of comparative studies between different cultures and disciplines with the theme “Comparison: An Exploration across Borders”. Assistant Professor Gao Liangmin, Assistant Professor Li Yuqing and Assistant Professor Liu Lanyu participated in the academic salon with the theme of “Methods and Experiences of field work” and shared their valuable experience and unique insights in field work.

      On June 30, campers shared their projects. In groups, campers conducted in-depth analyses of the unique challenges faced by different countries and regions and tried to come up with innovative solutions. These demonstrations not only reflect the campers’ academic abilities, but also their deep understanding of international issues and their ability to solve practical problems.

      The successful holding of this summer camp not only provides a platform for young scholars to show themselves and exchange ideas, but also further promotes academic exchanges and cooperation in regional and country studies.
