On January 25, the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as the "IIAS") held an academic dialogue on "New Developmentalism from a Multidisciplinary Perspective: Experience and Theory of Southeast Asia and China" at the Rangsit Campus of Thammasat University. More than a dozen experts and scholars in Southeast Asian studies and development theory from China, Thailand, Japan, Singapore and other countries attended the meeting to discuss the concept of "new developmentalism" in Southeast Asia.

The academic dialogue was hosted by Dr. Li Yuqing, assistant researcher at the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University. Dr. Chaiwat Meesanthan, director of the Institute of East Asian Studies at Thammasat University, and Professor Jiang Jingkui, executive vice president of the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University, delivered opening speeches, warmly welcoming the scholars and guests attending the conference, and introducing the history of the Thailand Field Station and the concept of the conference theme "New Developmentalism".

During the keynote speech session, Professor Kono Yasuyuki, member of the Academic Committee of the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University and Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University, gave a wonderful report on the theme of "New Developmentalism and its Enlightenment to Rural Society in Northeastern Thailand"; China Agricultural University International Professor Li Xiaoyun from the School of Development and Global Agriculture shared China's experience in "new rural construction and new developmentalism"; Professor Zhu Xufeng, Dean of the School of Public Administration at Tsinghua University, introduced the policy transfer experience of Singapore's land development policy in China. Subsequently, Dr. Chaiwat Meesanthan, Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Associate Professor Maitrii Aung-Thwin of the Institute of Asian Studies, National University of Singapore, Professor Dong Qiang, Associate Professor Xu Jin, and Associate Professor Huang Zhenqian of China Agricultural University Guests such as Associate Professor Narong Petprasert from the School of Economics at Rangsit University had a lively discussion on the keynote speech, providing rich comments from different countries, disciplines and research perspectives.

Finally, Professor Tim Niblock, Director of the Center for Global Issues at the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University, summarized and commented on the keynote speeches and discussions, emphasizing the significance of this academic dialogue and hoping that there will be more theoretical discussions and practices in the future.
The Thailand Fieldwork Station was jointly established in May 2023 by the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University and the Institute of East Asia Studies of Thammasat University. It is an important platform for Tsinghua University and its partner institutions to conduct field research in Southeast Asia, aiming to promote transnational academic exchanges and cooperation and explore the direction and path of regional country studies.
