From August 25th to 31st, 2024, eight teachers and students from Tsinghua University's Institute for International and Area Studies (from now on referred to as the Institute), with the support of Beijing Chenxing Education Foundation's “Stone Project”, went to Tibet to carry out a series of activities in support of the “Aid and Delivery of Classes to Tibet” series of elementary school in Xiayadong Township, Yadong County, Shigatse, Tibet. “Aid Tibet send class” series of helping activities.
Teachers and students of the institute made use of their respective professional knowledge and personal strengths to send a variety of courses with rich and colorful contents and forms for more than 200 students in six grades of the Xia-Yadong Primary School, including traditional basic subject courses, as well as engineering science courses, innovative reading and writing courses, creative painting courses and so on, which aimed to open up the horizon of the Tibetan children. In addition to the delivery of lessons, combined with the development needs of the school's education concept, teachers and students of the Institute assisted the elementary school in launching interest clubs, covering topics such as music, dance, calligraphy, sports, etc. Meanwhile, they organized the “Big Hands Holding Small Hands” sports meeting for all students, covering items such as basketball, badminton, soccer, table tennis, etc. After the delivery of lessons, the teachers of the school started the “Big Hand Holding Small Hands” sports meeting.
After the delivery of lessons, the teachers of the school and the teachers and students of the IIAS discussed teaching, shared the experience of delivery of lessons, and paid condolences to the poor students sponsored by the “Stone Program”. During the activity, the teachers and students of the institute also visited the China-India border and paid condolences to the resident army, deepening their understanding of the importance of national security and border stability.
This trip to Tibet is the second stop of the “Send Classes to the Countryside” series of teaching activities, the first of which took place in March 2024 in Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Miaodong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province.
