On 10 October 2024, the fifth plenary meeting of the Degree Evaluation Committee of Tsinghua University in 2024 was held in the Reception Hall of the Central Main Building. Li Luming, President and Chairman of the Degree Evaluation Committee of the University, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.

At the meeting, Jiang Jingkui, Director of IIAS, reported the construction of the authorised doctoral and master's degree stations of the first-level disciplines of area studies to be added. After voting, the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of Tsinghua University agreed to establish the authorised doctoral and master's degree programmes in area studies.
The voting result reflects the determination of Tsinghua University to promote the development of area studies, and lays a solid foundation for the construction of the discipline of area studies at Tsinghua University.
