Editorial Department Members of the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University Visited IIAS
On May 11, 2023, Professor Ding Jun, director of the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University and editor-in-chief of Arab World Studies and Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, Research Fellow Zhang Yuan, deputy editor-in-chief of Arab World Studies, Associate Research Fellow Li Yi, deputy editor-in-chief and director of the Editorial Department of Arab World Studies, Research Fellow Niu Song, deputy editor-in-chief of Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and Associate Research Fellow Zhao Jun, editor-in-charge of Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, visited the Institute for International and Area Studies (IIAS) of Tsinghua University and held a discussion with the scholars in the institute. Professor Jiang Jingkui, Executive Deputy Director of the IIAS and editor-in-chief of Area Studies and South Asian Review, Assist. Prof. Dr. Duan Jiuzhou, Assistant Director of the IIAS, deputy editor-in-chief and director of the Editorial Department of Area Studies, Assistant Profess Ding Chenxi, deputy director of the Editorial Department of Area Studies, and Assistant Professor Ma Yue, a member of the Editorial Department of Fieldwork Research, attended the discussion.
During the meeting, Director Ding Jun reviewed the prior engagements and collaborations between the two parties, and briefly introduced the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, the delegates, and the institute's two publications. Executive Deputy Director Jiang Jingkui extended a warm welcome to the editors of the two publications, and gave an introduction to the IIAS, its educational features and publication development. Then, Assist. Prof. Dr. Duan Jiuzhou delved into the historical progression and publication features of the institute's publications, namely Area Studies, South Asian Review and Fieldwork Research (Chinese and English editions). He also gave a brief introduction to the Center for West Asia and North Africa Studies. Deputy Editor-in-Chief Li Yi presented a comprehensive insight into the historical development, academic features, topic focus and publication system of Arab World Studies. Deputy Editor-in-Chief Niu Song systematically introduced the Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, covering its publication history, review process, selection preference and internationalization. At the end, both parties had in-depth discussions and exchanges with regards to the selection of paper topics, proofreading tasks and submission procedures for the publications.
