On the evening of March 14, 2024, the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University invited Dr. Robyn Klingler-Vidra, Vice Dean of King's College Business School, to give the second online lecture in the series of lectures on "Industrial Development and Value Chain Reconstruction in Southeast Asia under Great Changes", with the theme of "Industrial development and startup economy in Vietnam". This lecture was hosted by Qin Beichen, a doctoral student at the Institute for International and Area Studies of Tsinghua University, and nearly 100 teachers and students from domestic and foreign universities and professionals interested in the topic attended the lecture.
Before the lecture, Dr. Klingler-Vidra introduced her 14 years of work experience in the field of entrepreneurial economy in Southeast Asia, in which she conducted particularly in-depth research on entrepreneurial activities and the rise of the start-up economy in Vietnam. Furthermore, in the lecture, she introduced the development of start-ups in Vietnam and the government's innovation policies, guiding the audience to understand the development trend of Vietnam's industrialization and how policies affect this process. Then, Dr. Klingler-Vidra introduced in detail the goals, change process, differentiation analysis and evaluation criteria of the government's entrepreneurship policy. When discussing the role of the government in entrepreneurship and technological innovation, Dr. Klingler-Vidra compared relevant cases in China and Vietnam, such as China's guidance and support in the field of blockchain. Finally, Dr. Klingler-Vidra answered questions from the audience about the degree of digitalization of Vietnam's industry, technology transfer and industrial upgrading of Vietnamese enterprises.
Robyn Klingler-Vidra, Vice Dean of King's College London Business School, PhD in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research focuses on innovation activities, electronics industry and capital markets in Asia (especially Vietnam). Her papers have appeared in first-class journals such as International Affairs and New Political Economy, and she has written books such as "Silicon Valley of East Asia" and "Inclusive Innovation".
