Zhang Xiaojin is a Professor and PhD supervisor at the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University. He received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in Political Science from the Department of International Politics at Renmin University of China in 1982, 1985, and 1990 respectively. He began teaching at Renmin University in 1985, serving successively as Teaching Assistant, Lecturer, and Associate Professor, and was promoted to Professor and PhD supervisor in 1998. From 1997 to 2001, he concurrently served as Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation at Renmin University and Chinese Director of the China–EU Higher Education Cooperation Programme. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Vice Dean of the School of International Studies, during which he also held positions as Deputy Director and Director of the Centre for European Studies, and Director of the UNESCO Research Centre.

He has extensive international academic experience, having conducted visiting research at the University of Denver, Budapest University of Economic Sciences, Sciences Po Paris, Durham University, the University of California, Los Angeles (as a Fulbright Visiting Professor), and the Université libre de Bruxelles.

His research focuses on political methodology, comparative politics, and comparative party politics. He has produced substantial academic成果, including co-authored works such as Introduction to Comparative Politics and Political Parties and European Integration, and translations of important academic works including Methodology of Political Science Research, Theory and Methods of Political Science, and The Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Political Science. He has led numerous research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, key research bases of the Ministry of Education, the Ford Foundation, and UNESCO. He also serves as a Council Member of the Chinese Association of Political Science, Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Advanced Social Sciences at Fudan University, and Research Fellow at the Centre for Government Studies, Peking University.
