Yan Fei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University. His research spans historical sociology, political sociology, and cultural sociology, with a particular focus on sociological reflections on historical narratives, as well as lyrical and non-fiction writing in sociology, with the aim of bringing “the human” back into sociological inquiry.

He has published multiple works in both Chinese and English. He has authored dozens of articles in leading Chinese journals such as Sociological Research, Journal of Tsinghua University, and Open Times, and has also published in international journals including The Sociological Review, Social Science Research, and The China Quarterly. He has additionally served as co-editor or co-author of several English-language academic books.
