In order to promote the knowledge production and innovation in area and country studies, the Institute for International and Area Studies (IIAS) at Tsinghua University has devoted itself to planning and publishing the ""Tsinghua University Area Studies Series"", i.e. IIAS Monographs, IIAS Translated Works, and IIAS Edited Works. IIAS Monographs at this stage mainly includes the dissertations of scholars from the Doctoral Program in Developing Countries Studies (DCS), focusing on their efforts in theoretical innovation and knowledge production of area studies. Two monographs Studies on the Development and Transformation of Special Economic Zones in South Africa and Silenced Illness: an Anthropological Research on the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Tanzania have been published. IIAS Translated Works is dedicated to translating classic area and country studies into Chinese, and ten translated works have been published, including Nurturing the Nation: the Family Politics of Modernizing, Colonizing and Liberating Egypt, 1805-1923. IIAS Edited Works is a group of collective results compiled by IIAS faculty members, which mainly includes collected works of area studies forums and field research. Five edited works have been published, including Area Studies: New Realities, New Conceptions. More than twenty academic books in the ""Tsinghua University Area Studies Series"" will be published successively in the next two years,


The IIAS also has its own journals, Area Studies, Tsinghua Journal of Field Research, and South Asian Review. To serve the development of area studies as a first-level discipline, Area Studies aims to provide a high-level academic exchange platform for area studies scholars to discuss research targets, topics, theories and methods. Tsinghua Journal of Field Research collects scholarly papers devoted to field research that combines on-site observations and surveys with in-depth studies. The Series of Translated works is devoted to translating and introducing international frontier area studies research results to China. Faculty at IIAS and Students of the doctoral program in DCS lead the translation projects of more than 20 books, which will be successively published by China Social Sciences Press and Shanghai People’s publishing house in the near future.
