Research Areas: Platform Economy, Digital Economy, State-Owned Enterprise Reform

Wang Yong is a tenured Professor at Tsinghua University and a doctoral supervisor. He serves as the Principal Investigator of a Major Project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, Director of the Tsinghua–BMW China Sustainable Development and Mobility Innovation Institute, and Director of the Digital Economy Research Center at the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University. He is also Vice President of the Chinese Society for Business History and Chair of its Enterprise History Division, as well as a Research Fellow at the Center for Network Economy Research at Peking University.

He received his Ph.D. from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, completed postdoctoral research in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, and was a Santander Visiting Scholar at University of Oxford.

His primary research areas include game theory, the digital economy, platform economy, and the theory of the firm. He has published more than 70 academic articles in leading journals in China and internationally, including Economic Research Journal and Management World. Many of his works have been fully reprinted in influential publications such as Xinhua Digest, and he has been listed among the top 1% of highly cited scholars on China National Knowledge Infrastructure for several consecutive years.

He has authored influential academic books including Fusion and Innovation (published by Springer) and Platform Governance. He has led numerous research projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Fund. He has also served as an expert consultant for several government bodies, including the National Development and Reform Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation, providing policy advice on platform economy regulation and mixed-ownership reform of state-owned enterprises.

He has received numerous honors, including the Second Prize of the 9th Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) from the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, National First-Class Undergraduate Course recognition, the First Prize of the Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, the Second Prize in the Beijing Young Faculty Teaching Competition, the Best Book Award from Tsinghua University Press, as well as Tsinghua University Distinguished Course and General Education Honors Course awards.
