On April 25th, 2021, a delegation of seven experts from the Eastern African Studies Center of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) visited Institute for International and Area Studies, Tsinghua University (IIAS-THU), including Prof. Ma Jun, Director of the Center, and Prof. Ning Yi, Deputy Director. The team had in-depth discussion and communication with IIAS’ Sub-Saharan African Studies Group. Prof. Zhang Jing, Vice President of IIAS and several young research professors and doctorate candidates attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Zhang Jing extended a warm welcome to Prof. Ma Jun and Prof. Ning Yi and their party on behalf of IIAS and briefly introduced IIAS’ development and research work. Later, Prof. Ma presented the basic information of the Eastern African Studies Center at SISU. The two parties conducted extensive discussion on a number of issues, including training and education, curriculum design, academic research, area studies and IIAS’ recruitment and hoped to take this opportunity to further enhance academic communication.
Established in 2019, the Eastern African Studies Center at SISU is committed to conducting national and regional studies in East African history and culture, social politics and economy, and bilateral relations between China and Africa. Through this visit, the Eastern African Studies Center at SISU and IIAS have reached a consensus on maintaining long-term and friendly academic exchange and interaction.
