On December 6, 2019, Prof. Tim Niblock, Member of Faculty Council at the Institute of International and Area Studies (IIAS) of Tsinghua University and Professor Emeritus of the University of Exeter, brought the theme lecturer of “The Changing World Order and Its Significance for the Global South (2)” to IIAS, which is the 2nd session of the Global South Lecture Series.

Prof. Niblock continued to deepen the conclusions of the first lecture, that is, the changes in the situation of Sino-US relations will largely lead to changes in the political and economic situations of countries in the Global South in the future, thus forming a new world order.

First of all, the professor started with the Middle East region he specializes in and analyzed the potential new world situation, especially the impact of Sino-US competition on the politics and economy of the Global South.

Afterwards, he discussed with the doctoral students in the 6 regional groups of IIAS about the impact of the new situation on each region. The key points included whether the region is capable of maintaining a stable posture in an increasingly divided world situation, what are the advantages and disadvantages of development brought about by the new situation, and what challenges the political systems of various countries in the region face under the new situation.
